We welcome our pilots! However, pilots must meet/complete the following requirements before flying at Beach Blast. If you are a guest or are not planning to fly at Beach Blast then you can skip over this information. Many of the flying requirements have been mandated by Panama City Beach. Most of these requirements can be confirmed before the start of the event through our online registration process and follow-up emails. Please read carefully:
  1. The pilot must have a verifiable USPPA PPG2 rating (or international equivalent) or higher. A USHPA P2 rating or higher is also acceptable.
    • USPPA ratings can be verified at this USPPA web page by Beach Blast staff. If your USPPA member number is provided during online registration then Beach Blast will verify your rating and send you email confirmation that your rating is acceptable for flying at the event.
    • USHPA and foreign pilot ratings can be verified by providing a copy of your pilot rating card or a copy of your rating certification, signed by your instructor or other qualified official in the relevant organization. Prior to the event, this information can be sent to info@beachblastppg.com to confirm that it is acceptable for flying at the event.
  2. A copy of your Driver's License or Photo ID must be made at the registration desk. The copy will be kept on record during the event and will be destroyed 30 days after the close of the event.
  3. Your wing(s) must be identifiable during flight in the following ways:
    • A description of your wing(s) must be provided to Beach Blast for our records. Information will include Make, Model and primary Color(s) of your wing(s). The online registration form allows you to provide this information before the start of the event. This will speed up the registration process on the 1st day of the event when the registration desk is the most crowded.
    • At the event you will be provided with a small uniquely-numbered flag. The flag must be attached to your wing during flight (most likely on a D-line near the canopy - Testing of these flags is ongoing). Do not share your flag with other pilots.
    • Demo wings from vendors must also be identified and numbered by the vendor. The vendor will be required to keep a written log of the time, date and name of the pilots who fly the demo wings.
  4. The pilot must sign and initial the liability waiver & rules FOR PARTICIPANTS. They will also be available at the registration desk during the event.
We thank you for your understanding of these requirements and promise to make the registration process as smooth as possible.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...

IF I PRE-REGISTER, WILL I BE NOTIFIED WHEN MY PPG RATING IS CONFIRMED?

Yes. We will confirm your PPG2 (or higher) rating shortly after you pre-register online. You will then be contacted by email to let you know if your rating has been OK'd for flying at Beach Blast.

WHY IS THIS REQUIRED?

Beach Blast's agreement with the city requires that pilots are PPG2 rated (or above). In addition, having a rating addresses insurance and safety issues at the event. It proves that the pilot has been taught the FAR 103 rules that apply at the event and sets a minimum standard of proficiency for all pilots.

I HAVE YEARS OF PPG EXPERIENCE WITHOUT A RATING. CAN I GET A WAIVER?

There are no waivers being granted to pilots who don't have a PPG2 rating or higher. Please don't ask for one.

WHY DO I NEED TO FLY WITH A FLAG?

Beach Blast's agreement with the city requires that all paragliders are uniquely identifiable while in flight. This is similar to the N-number requirement for aircraft.

I WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN EARLY REGISTRATION, BUT DON'T HAVE MY PPG2 RATING YET. CAN I STILL REGISTER NOW AND GET MY RATING BEFORE BEACH BLAST SO THAT I CAN FLY?

Of course. Your PPG2 rating can be checked when you arrive at the event. Visit the USPPA web site for a list of certified instructors.

I WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN EARLY REGISTRATION, BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT WING(S) I WILL FLY AT THE EVENT. CAN I STILL REGISTER NOW?

Yes. There is room to identify multiple wings in the registration form. Changes can be made at the registration desk during the event. Please enter your best information online which will speed up the registration process during the event.
